Car Insurance Without A License Is A Real Possibility

Most people think that you cannot get car insurance without a license. However, there are many carriers who will give policies to drivers who don't have licenses. Drivers have many reasons for a driver needing to be covered without having a valid driving documentation. Whatever the reasons, these drivers should seek coverage to keep themselves and other drivers safe on the road.

Teenage drivers who are just learning how to operate a vehicle will need to be covered while they are studying for their driving exam. With only a driver's permit, many companies will cover these new drivers. Once young driver receives his or her license, the insurance company will ask to be sent proof of licensure to continue coverage.

Drivers from other countries will need to be covered if they plan to operate vehicles while they are in the United States. If someone new to the country has international or foreign driving certification, they may be able to get an International Driving Permit. With this permit, they can get coverage and are allowed a certain set period of time in order to get licensed in the state where they reside.

While operating a vehicle without a license is against the law, sometimes motorists will be unlicensed because it has been revoked or suspended due to lack of an insurance policy. In order to get the license back, the driver will need to get a policy and go to court in order to show proof of coverage. Often times, a hefty fine will also have to be paid for operating while uninsured to get the licensure reinstated. Also, most policyholders will give the driver 30 to 45 days to get their license back or the policy will expire.

Most vehicle loans will require that the vehicle remain insured for the entire life of its loan. As part of the finance agreement, the loaner will often require that comprehensive and collision coverage be maintained on the vehicle. If an automobile is found out to be uncovered, or the coverage isn't as required by the contract, the loan holder can take the loan back and repossess the vehicle.

While it isn't hard to find an insurer to get coverage in any of these circumstances, it might take a bit of effort. You can go online to search for a policy or you can make telephone calls to carriers in your area. Most of the time, you will not be asked if you are licensed. The agent may ask for your social security number of the vehicle identification number (VIN) instead. With these numbers, he or she can look up a motor vehicle report to give a quote on a policy.

However, if the agent does ask about licensure, don't lie. Explain the circumstances why you are not currently licensed and, in most cases, it shouldn't be an issue. However, if you lie about your licensing status and file a claim, the policyholder may then have a right not to cover the claim.

The cost of policies for these circumstances may vary from company to company. Some companies may use your unlicensed status to over-inflated the cost of such a policy as well. However, with a bit of research, it is possible to find companies to cater to those drivers needing car insurance without a license.
